The Kebbi State Government has applauded the Nigerian Army Headquarters for strengthening its presence in the state with the establishment and operationalisation of three strategic military formations.
The government said the move would significantly enhance security operations and improve the military’s ability to respond swiftly to emerging threats in Kebbi and adjoining areas.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kebbi on Tuesday.
Ahmed described the establishment of the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi as a major development in the state’s security architecture.
According to him, the new formation would strengthen military operations, expand operational capacity and ensure faster responses to security threats within Kebbi and neighbouring states.
He said the development reflected the Nigerian Army’s commitment to confronting the security challenges facing the state and the country at large.
The Commissioner also highlighted the operationalisation of the 281 Tank Battalion in Yauri and the 381 Artillery Regiment in Kaoje, saying their presence would complement the Brigade Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.
He explained that the three formations would provide additional capacity for counter-insurgency and combat operations across different parts of the state.
Ahmed also commended the contributions of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), hunters and community-based vigilante groups in the collective effort to protect lives and property.
He attributed the latest military deployments to the persistent efforts of Governor Nasir Idris to secure additional security formations, manpower, equipment and armament for the state.
The Commissioner said the Governor had consistently advocated stronger security arrangements to address the peculiar and evolving threats confronting Kebbi.
He assured all security agencies operating in the state of the continued support and cooperation of the Kebbi State Government as they discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
Ahmed further commended Governor Idris for what he described as responsive and result-oriented leadership, saying the administration’s efforts had contributed to developments recorded across the state.
The Commissioner, however, urged residents to complement the efforts of security agencies by providing credible and timely information on the activities, locations and movements of bandits, insurgents and other criminal elements.
He stressed that sustained cooperation between communities and security agencies remained critical to strengthening security and protecting lives and property across Kebbi State.
