The Katsina State Police Command has recorded major successes in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, arresting 225 suspects and rescuing 17 kidnapped victims across the state in May 2026.
Addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, said the achievements were made possible through intelligence-led operations, inter-agency collaboration, and sustained patrols targeting kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, arms trafficking, and other crimes.
According to him, the Command arrested seven suspected kidnappers, 10 armed robbery suspects, one suspected bandit, two informants, 21 drug peddlers, 10 murder suspects, 36 rape and sodomy suspects, 13 social miscreants, and 130 others linked to various criminal offences.
DSP Aliyu disclosed that 150 major criminal cases were reported during the period, with 109 already charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.
In a significant boost to security efforts, the Command successfully rescued 17 kidnapped victims, who have since been reunited with their families after undergoing medical examinations and debriefing.
The police also recovered a large cache of exhibits, including 466 suspected rustled animals, three motor vehicles, 22 motorcycles, 20 laptops, two mobile phones, vandalised electrical materials, and large quantities of suspected illicit drugs and controlled substances.
The PPRO noted that the establishment of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has strengthened the Command’s capacity to tackle violent crimes, while community policing initiatives have improved intelligence gathering and cooperation between residents and security agencies.
He attributed the Command’s successes to effective collaboration with sister security agencies through joint operations, coordinated patrols, and real-time intelligence sharing.
While acknowledging the progress made, DSP Aliyu stressed that the police would not relent in their efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for his support to security agencies and commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for providing the necessary logistical and operational backing.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies, warning criminals that they would face the full weight of the law.
The latest achievements underscore the Katsina Police Command’s intensified drive to enhance security and safeguard lives and property across the state.
