The Katsina State Government has expressed confidence that former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (Rtd), his wife, and other captives will soon regain their freedom as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue them from their abductors.
The retired Army General and his wife were kidnapped along the Matazu axis in what authorities described as a carefully planned and targeted operation.
Following the incident, Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda reportedly directed all security agencies to place the rescue of the former military spokesman, his wife, and other victims at the top of their operational priorities.
According to preliminary findings, the kidnappers allegedly monitored and trailed the couple from Kaduna, their point of departure, before carrying out the abduction. Officials said the development points to a growing sophistication among criminal groups operating in the region.
The government noted that ongoing investigations suggest the involvement of an organized criminal network, prompting security agencies to adopt advanced surveillance technology and intelligence-driven operations to track down the perpetrators.
Authorities have also intensified security operations in the affected area while strengthening collaboration among the Nigerian Army, Police, and intelligence services to ensure the victims’ safe return.
Reaffirming its determination to bring those behind the crime to justice, the state government stressed that attacks on retired servicemen and innocent citizens would not be tolerated.
While appealing for calm, officials urged residents and anyone with useful information to assist security agencies in their investigations.
The government maintained that all available resources have been deployed to secure the release of Major General Rabe Abubakar, his wife, and other abductees, expressing optimism that the ongoing high-level operations will soon deliver positive results.
