The Katsina State Government has taken another step towards transforming public transportation with the approval of a dedicated Hybrid Bus Operations and Maintenance Unit under the Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA).
The decision was reached at the State Executive Council meeting and disclosed to journalists by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Bala Salisu Zango, during a briefing on the council’s resolutions.
According to Zango, the new unit will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the state’s hybrid buses, charging stations, maintenance facilities and other supporting infrastructure.
He said the government would also recruit and train competent drivers and administrative personnel to ensure the new transportation system operates efficiently and professionally.
The commissioner disclosed that the recruitment plan would promote fairness across the state, with the government targeting at least one qualified driver from each of Katsina’s 34 Local Government Areas.
He explained that the arrangement was designed to ensure broad representation and give residents across the state an opportunity to participate in the emerging modern transport system.
In another major move to support the hybrid buses, the council approved the installation of dedicated transformer substations at KTSTA’s three operational facilities in Katsina, Daura and Funtua.
Zango said the substations would complement the existing solar inverter systems while providing a more dependable electricity supply for vehicle charging and workshop operations.
The latest decisions form part of the Radda administration’s broader drive to upgrade public infrastructure, strengthen essential services and introduce more modern and sustainable transportation solutions across Katsina State.
With the establishment of a dedicated operational structure and investment in charging infrastructure, the government is positioning KTSTA to play a bigger role in the state’s evolving public transportation system.
