The Governing Board of the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA), led by its Chairman, retired AIG Danlami Yaradua, has intensified efforts to strengthen road safety and traffic management across the state, taking its working visit to Kankia and Charanchi Local Government Areas.
The inspection tour, which focused on assessing the Authority’s grassroots operations, also provided an opportunity for KASSAROTA to deepen collaboration with traditional institutions, local government authorities and security agencies.
The delegation began its engagement in Kankia with a courtesy visit to the District Head of Kankia, the Kankiyan Katsina, Alhaji Musa Hassan Sada.
The traditional ruler commended KASSAROTA personnel for their dedication and professionalism, particularly in the discharge of their traffic management responsibilities.
He attributed the reported reduction in road traffic accidents across the state partly to the efforts of the Authority and assured the delegation of his continued support.
Alhaji Musa Hassan Sada said his doors would remain open to KASSAROTA whenever the Authority required his cooperation, stressing the importance of collective action in protecting lives on the roads.
Responding, retired AIG Yaradua thanked the traditional ruler for his support and appealed to the palace and other traditional institutions to intensify road safety sensitisation among rural communities.
He stressed that effective traffic management could not be achieved by KASSAROTA alone, urging traditional leaders to help educate residents on safe driving practices and compliance with traffic regulations.
The delegation subsequently met with representatives of the Kankia Local Government Council, led by its Secretary, Dr. Abdullahi Nuhu, alongside councillors and directors of the council.
The council representatives pledged continued cooperation with KASSAROTA but also raised concerns over some of the fines imposed on motorists by the Authority.
They called for a review of certain penalties, particularly those considered burdensome to motorists.
The Board noted the concerns, as the engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss ways of improving traffic enforcement while ensuring fairness and public compliance.
The KASSAROTA delegation also visited the Kankia Divisional Police Headquarters, where the Divisional Police Officer, SP Abbas Saminu, assured the Authority of the continued cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Police pledged to support KASSAROTA personnel in carrying out their duties, particularly in maintaining law and order and ensuring effective traffic management.
From Kankia, the working visit proceeded to Charanchi Local Government Area, where the delegation visited the office of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The Head of the Civil Defence office, CSP Zaharaddin Rimi, expressed support for KASSAROTA’s activities and assured the Board of continued cooperation.
At the palace of the District Head of Charanchi, Alhaji Abashe Abdulkadir, the KASSAROTA Chairman reiterated that the working visit was designed to assess the Authority’s operations at the grassroots and identify areas requiring improvement.
Yaradua again solicited the support of traditional rulers in promoting road safety, educating communities and encouraging motorists to comply with traffic regulations.
He emphasised that reducing road crashes required a partnership involving government agencies, traditional institutions, local councils, security organisations and members of the public.
The delegation rounded off its Charanchi engagements with a visit to the Divisional Police Headquarters, where the DPO, ACP Muhammad Nura, assured KASSAROTA of the Police’s continued support in maintaining road safety and effective traffic management.
The series of engagements, according to the Board, forms part of its broader effort to ensure that KASSAROTA’s operations are effective, responsive and firmly connected to the communities it serves.
The delegation comprised the Board Chairman, retired AIG Danlami Yaradua, mni; retired CP Ladodo; retired Suleiman Isa Ketare; retired State Director, Alhaji Gambo Mashi; KASSAROTA Director-General, Major Garba Yahaya Rimi; retired Controller of Immigration, Alhaji Dahiru Mani Bagiwa; KASSAROTA Secretary, Aminu Lawal Batsari; and the Authority’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Marwana Kofar Sauri.
The visit underscored a growing push by KASSAROTA to make road safety a shared responsibility, with the Authority seeking stronger grassroots partnerships to save lives, improve traffic discipline and reduce avoidable crashes across Katsina State.
