The Kano State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with the United Kingdom following a high-level visit by officials of the British High Commission to the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the British delegation to the Government House in Kano on Tuesday.
The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, said the engagement reflected a shared commitment to deepening cooperation, strategic dialogue, and mutual accountability in governance and development.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, the Kano administration highly values the partnership and support of the British High Commission in key sectors affecting the lives of residents.
“The Kano State Government highly values the support and partnership of the British High Commission in governance reforms, education, healthcare, economic development and social inclusion,” the governor stated.
Garo stressed that stronger partnerships built on trust, transparency, and shared responsibility would help accelerate development across the state.
He noted that the meeting also provided an opportunity to assess ongoing collaborations, exchange ideas, and reaffirm commitment to the Mutual Accountability Framework.
The deputy governor further assured development partners that the state government remained committed to creating an enabling environment for investments and sustainable growth.
Earlier, the leader of the British delegation and Head of Development Cooperation at the British High Commission, Cynthia Rowe, said the visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in three major areas.
She identified economic growth and investment, security and stabilization, and institutional strengthening as priority areas for collaboration.
Rowe explained that improving access to finance, supporting private sector participation, and boosting investor confidence were critical to stimulating economic development in Kano and Nigeria at large.
She added that strengthening healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance systems remained essential to achieving long-term development goals.
