Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Rail Line Set for December Take-Off — FG

Borno State Government

The Federal Government has announced that the long-awaited Kaduna-Zaria-Kano railway corridor is expected to be completed and opened for operations by December, raising hopes of improved movement of passengers and goods across the North.

The assurance was given by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Funsho Adebiyi, on Monday in Abuja during the 19th National Council on Transportation.

Adebiyi said the project forms part of the Federal Government’s broader push to restore efficiency to Nigeria’s railway network and expand rail services across the country.

The Kaduna-Zaria-Kano route is considered a major transportation link in the North, with its completion expected to strengthen connectivity between key commercial centres, ease pressure on the roads and support economic activities along the corridor.

The December target, if achieved, would mark a significant step in the government’s efforts to revitalise rail transportation and provide Nigerians with a safer and more reliable alternative to road travel.

Speaking at the transportation council, Adebiyi also emphasised the need for sustained investment and coordinated efforts to modernise the country’s transport infrastructure.

The Federal Government’s latest commitment has therefore renewed attention on the Kaduna-Zaria-Kano rail project, with commuters and businesses in the region now looking toward December for the promised commencement of train services.
