Aichatou El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has issued a pre-action notice to the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), demanding N2 billion in damages over alleged defamatory statements made against her by the anti-graft agency.
The legal notice, which signals a possible court showdown, accused the commission of making statements considered damaging to her reputation and personal integrity.
Sources familiar with the development said the former First Lady of Kaduna State is seeking an immediate retraction of the alleged defamatory remarks, a public apology, and financial compensation amounting to N2 billion.
The move comes amid mounting political and legal tensions surrounding investigations linked to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, whose recent engagements with anti-corruption authorities have generated intense national attention.
Legal analysts say the pre-action notice is a formal warning preceding litigation and could open another dramatic chapter in the escalating face-off between the El-Rufai camp and the ICPC.
As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC had not issued an official response to the notice.
