In a bid to alleviate the economic distress faced by victims of banditry attacks, the Katsina State Government has disbursed N6 million as financial assistance to affected families in Musawa and Danja Local Government Areas. The intervention, spearheaded by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration, is part of ongoing efforts to support communities grappling with the devastating impact of insecurity across the state.
The disbursement exercise was overseen by Yusuf Ibrahim Safana, the Special Adviser on Security and Community Watch and Chairman of the Intervention Committee.
He was accompanied by key government officials including Sa’idu Ibrahim Danja (Kogunan Jibia), Senior Special Assistant on Victims of Banditry and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs); Lawal Zubairu, Senior Special Assistant on Palliatives; and Shafi’u Rabi’u Safana, Special Assistant on Victims of Banditry and IDPs as members of the committee.
The financial assistance was directed to families in several hard-hit communities. In Danja LGA, beneficiaries hailed from Kuraku, Dadai, Kadanya, Tsangamawa, Dorayi, G/Magaji, Unguwar Danja, Dogon Dawai, Majema, Tandama, and Makaurata.
While In Musawa LGA, the aid reached residents of Tabe, Musawa, Katoge, and Nawala villages that have borne the brunt of violent attacks in recent times.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Yusuf Ibrahim Safana conveyed Governor Radda’s heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attacks. He emphasized that the financial support was not meant to compensate for the irreplaceable losses but to provide some relief amid the economic strain inflicted by the violence.
“This intervention is a gesture of solidarity and support from the government. It cannot replace the lives lost, but we hope it will ease some of the burdens you face,” Safana stated.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating banditry, stressing that the administration would not relent in its efforts to restore peace and security across Katsina State.
Safana also underscored the government’s zero tolerance stance toward banditry, vowing that perpetrators of violence would face the full force of the law. “Governor Radda’s administration is determined to confront the menace of insecurity head-on. We will not show leniency to those who continue to terrorize our communities,” he asserted.
Local government officials from the affected areas praised the state government’s intervention. Rabo Tambaya, Chairman of Danja LGA represented by the Local Government Secretary, Idris B. Umar expressed gratitude for the timely support, noting its significance in addressing the immediate needs of affected families.
Similarly, Habibu Abdulkadir, Chairman of Musawa LGA, represented by Ahmad Suraj, lauded Governor Radda’s proactive approach in tackling both security and humanitarian challenges.
For the beneficiaries, the assistance brought a glimmer of hope amid their struggles. Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Magaji Dogon Dawa and Maryam expressed deep appreciation to the government, noting that while the financial support cannot erase their trauma, it will help them manage urgent needs and begin the difficult journey of rebuilding their lives.
“This support means a lot to us. It shows that the government has not forgotten us in our time of grief,” said Magaji Dogon Dawa, his voice laden with emotion.
The Katsina State Government’s intervention highlights a broader strategy not only to combat insecurity but also to provide critical support to communities caught in the crossfire of violence. As the government intensifies its fight against banditry, many residents remain hopeful that lasting peace and stability will soon be restored to their communities.
