A tense security scare unfolded outside the White House on Saturday evening after an armed suspect reportedly opened fire at a Secret Service checkpoint before being fatally shot by agents.
The dramatic incident triggered an immediate security response around the presidential complex, with heavily armed officers sealing off parts of the area as investigations commenced.
According to a statement issued by the U.S. Secret Service and obtained by CBS News, the suspect initiated gunfire at the checkpoint, prompting agents to return fire and neutralise the threat.
A White House official confirmed that President Donald Trump, who was inside the White House at the time of the shooting, was promptly briefed on the incident.
The Secret Service said the president remained safe throughout the confrontation, while authorities launched a full-scale investigation into the motive behind the attack and the identity of the suspect.
