Grassroots Cricket Resurges in Maiduguri, Aiding IDPs, Orphans

Cricket Federation of Nigeria in conjunction with Borno State Chapter of Cricket Association where in a two days tour to reintroduce grassroot cricket game in some selected schools in Maiduguri the state Capital.

According to the released by information officers Borno state sport council Ibrahim Tukur Woka in Maiduguri on Friday.

Woka said the delegation led by the National Secretary General of the Cricket Federation of Nigeria Sani Mohammed who represents the National President of the Association Oyosa Apatan as well as North East zonal co-ordinator among other top officials of the Association.

On the first day of the visit three schools of Galtimari Secondary school, Future Prowess and Girl Child Concern Academy within Maiduguri Metropolis were visited which is sports intervention to IDP’s/Orphanage reintroduction of grassroot Cricket in some selected schools.

The statement explains that during the visit, the game was reintroduce to the students as well as demonstrations of how to play the game.

On his remark Secretary General of Cricket Federation of Nigeria Sani Mohammed said Cricket is not a new game but need to be reintroduce for the younger generation so as to grow with the skills, knowledge and talent of the game in them ”

He said that, Borno State is a home of cricket that’s why the Federation fine it deem to reintroduce it to the younger once and up coming generation.

On his part, Usman Ibrahim Danjuma Chairman Cricket Borno State Chapter acknowledge the support and effort of Honourable commissioner of Education as well as Borno State government under the leadership of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum in engaging Youths and students in sporting activities.

Each school visited received a complete set of Cricket Jersey, Cartoons of Indomie noodles, bag of Rice, groundnut oil among other food items.

While at Girl Child Concern Academy, the Secretary General of the Association donated the sum of One hundred Thousand Naira to the student as part of encouragement and promise to do more.

All the schools head acknowledge the gesture and promise to encourage students to dedicate in their studies as participate in sporting activities.

While the tour continue for the second day
