Governor Bala Mohammed has warned beneficiaries of agric-business trained youths and women in Bauchi state against the levish use of N500, O00 programme intervention for dowry payment to an ostentatiously organized levish marriages
The Governor therefore advised the programme beneficiaries not to, after collecting the N500, 000 intervention grants to suddenly disappear into thin, only to organize an eleborate wedding to add another wife boost fully having the starter packs in place to fend for a living.
To this end, the governor directed the state ministry of agriculture to verify beneficiary to ensure that only those who successfully completed the training are paid N500, 000 intervention grant, as he also directed monitoring the activities of the beneficiaries who collect the N500, 000 to ensure measurable improvement in agricultural productivity.
He gave the warning at Bununu, headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area in the state while launching of the 2026 wet season farming, sales of fertilizer and presentation of starter packs to trained youths and women in agric-business, where he pegged the Bauchi NPK fertilizer bag at N20, O00 from N38, 000 after subsidy.
Governor Bala told the 2025 beneficiaries of the programme, “Our commitment to empowering youths and women through agriculture remains unwavering, and subject to availability of resources, this programme would continue to expand in the years ahead”.
Senator Bala Mohammed explained that the grant intervention is not an act of charity, but rather an investment in productivity, enterprise employment generation, and the future prosperity of Bauchi state, and congratulated the beneficiaries for such remarkable achievement
Mohammed noted that agricultural transformation cannot be achieved by government alone, as according to him, it requires collaboration with all stakeholders, and expressed appreciation to the federal government, livestock ministry and the World Bank for the interventions they were giving, continued partnership and support
The Governor urged the beneficiaries to invest the resources wisely, establish sustainable enterprises, create employment opportunities for themselves and friends, their respective communities, and contribute meaningfully to the food security and economic development of the state and federal governments.
The Governor who observed that agriculture remains the viable pathway to wealth creation and selfreliance, said the sector is also significantly important in reducing the rate of unemployment among youths, as it similarly give them hope for brighter future.
He also expressed confidence that in agriculture, youths and women can actualize their own inbuilt potentials to became what they want to become in future, stressing that government was encouraged by the programme’s achievement in 2021 which culminated to it’s expansion in 2025 with the intake of another 1, 250 youths and women from across the twenty local government areas of the state
“Iam delighted to announce today the commencement of training of starter packs grants of N500, 000 each to the 1, 250 trained agriculturists and agric-business acumen who will also today collect their checque for the amounts
“This subsidy represent the major investment in food security and fora prosperity. We believe that the support provided our farmers is an investment in the future of Bauchi state. I assure our farmers that fertilizer distribution will be carried out across all the twenty local government areas to ensure equitable access to the commodity”.
Describing farmers as the true drivers of the state economy, the governor noted that every meal consumes in our homes, every market supplied with foodstuffs, every agro-processing enterprise defends largely on their labour, resilience and sacrifice.
