SOKOTO — Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Islamic values and improving places of worship, declaring that the construction, remodeling and renovation of Juma’at mosques will remain a key priority of his government.
The governor made the pledge on Friday while inaugurating the newly remodeled Shuni Juma’at Mosque in Sokoto, one of the landmark projects unveiled to commemorate his administration’s third anniversary in office.
Aliyu said the mosque renewal programme is designed to provide worshippers with modern, safe and conducive facilities, while reinforcing the state’s longstanding reputation as a centre of Islamic scholarship and religious devotion.
According to him, his administration views investment in religious infrastructure as an essential part of promoting spiritual growth, unity and moral values among citizens.
He stressed that the government would sustain efforts to build new Juma’at mosques and rehabilitate ageing ones across the state, ensuring that Muslim communities have befitting places for congregational prayers and other religious activities.
The governor noted that the remodeled Shuni Juma’at Mosque reflects his administration’s resolve to preserve religious heritage while responding to the needs of the growing population.
He urged residents to make proper use of the facility, maintain its sanctity and continue offering prayers for lasting peace, stability and development in Sokoto State and Nigeria.
The inauguration of the mosque formed part of a series of projects being commissioned by the state government to mark Governor Aliyu’s three years in office, showcasing what the administration described as its commitment to both infrastructural development and the promotion of religious values.
Observers say the latest mosque project underscores the governor’s strategy of combining physical development with initiatives aimed at preserving Sokoto’s rich Islamic heritage, a legacy for which the state is widely recognised.
