Gombe Police Wraps Up International Youth Day 2026 With Tree-Planting Exercise

The Gombe State Police Command has conducted a tree planting exercise at its headquarters in Gombe as part of activities marking the third day of its youth and community engagement programme.

Held under the theme “Plant Peace, Grow Nigeria,” the initiative sought to promote environmental sustainability, peace, community responsibility and a safer future for residents.

The Command urged youths, community leaders, civil society organisations, media practitioners, stakeholders and other partners to actively participate in environmental protection efforts and initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and security in Gombe State.

Speaking to journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said more than 50 trees had been planted within the Command headquarters and other locations.

He said the exercise would be sustained as part of efforts to combat desertification, protect the environment and contribute to the wellbeing and sustainable development of communities.

DSP Buhari commended participants and stakeholders for their cooperation, describing their support as crucial to the success of the initiative.

He also urged young people to remain responsible and productive members of society, stressing that good character and positive contributions would help prepare them for leadership responsibilities in the future.

The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, meanwhile, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained community engagement, proactive intelligence-led policing and stronger partnerships between the police and members of the public.

He said the initiative was consistent with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to strengthen police-community relations and promote peace and security across Nigeria
