A prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Gombe State, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma, popularly known as Garkuwa Babba, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Garkuwa Babba, a former ADC aspirant for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency and National Chairman of the ADC House of Representatives Aspirants Forum, announced his defection when he met with Gombe State Governor and APC leader, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, in Abuja.
He was received by the Governor alongside the APC governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, and party chieftain and philanthropist, Engineer Aliyu Mohammed Combat.
The former ADC chieftain pledged to mobilise his political network and grassroots supporters in favour of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s senatorial ambition, Dr. Jamilu Gwamna and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Garkuwa Babba attributed his decision to join the APC to what he described as Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s sterling leadership, achievements and development record across Gombe State.
He said the administration’s performance had strengthened public confidence in the APC, adding that his decision was aimed at supporting continuity, stability and further development of the state.
Receiving the new entrant, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the defection as a significant boost to the APC and welcomed Garkuwa Babba and his supporters into the party.
The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to building an inclusive and united APC, stressing the importance of unity, loyalty and collective efforts in advancing the interests of Gombe State.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the APC remained open to individuals and groups who shared its vision for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Gombe State.
He also called on party members and stakeholders to maintain cohesion, saying the strength of the APC would continue to depend on its ability to accommodate diverse interests while maintaining a common commitment to the development of the state.
