Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives following a devastating fuel tanker explosion on Saturday at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna highway in Niger State’s Gurara Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Buhari extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State, describing the tragedy as a painful reminder of the dangers of scooping fuel.
He lamented the growing prevalence of the practice despite repeated warnings from authorities and the catastrophic consequences it often brings.
“The loss of over 70 lives is heartbreaking, and my thoughts are with the families of the victims,” the former president said. He also wished the injured a swift recovery.
The incident has reignited calls for stricter measures to prevent fuel scooping and improve tanker safety standards across the country.
