Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has instituted a fresh ₦10 billion fundamental rights lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alleging violations of his rights while in custody.

In the suit, El-Rufai reportedly accused the anti-graft agency of preventing his wife and son from gaining access to him, a situation he said had affected their ability to deliver food and medication to him during his detention.

The former governor is seeking ₦10 billion in damages over what he described as alleged infringements on his fundamental rights.

El-Rufai’s latest legal action adds a new dimension to the ongoing dispute between him and the ICPC, as his legal team challenges the conditions surrounding his detention.

The former governor has maintained that access to family members and essential supplies, including medication, is important to his welfare while in custody.

The ICPC has yet to publicly respond to the latest allegations contained in the suit.

The development is expected to intensify the legal battle between the former Kaduna governor and the anti-corruption agency as the court considers the claims and reliefs sought by El-Rufai.
