A youth-driven humanitarian initiative has brought relief to thousands of residents in Katsina North as the Katsina North Youth Development and Awareness Initiative (KNYDAI), in collaboration with the Baraka Memorial Foundation (BMF), distributed 13 cows and 325 bags of rice to members across the Daura zone ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The distribution ceremony, held in Daura on Monday, benefited about 19,000 people drawn from the twelve local government areas of the zone, in what organisers described as a major effort to cushion the economic hardship facing families during the festive season.
Speaking on behalf of the founder of the association, the Sarkin Fadar Daura and District Head of Dankum, Alhaji Lawal Sade, Alhaji Bashar Sade said the gesture was aimed at helping members celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with dignity and ease.
“We want members of the association and the less privileged to feel the joy of the Sallah season despite the current economic realities,” he said.
Representing Governor Dikko Umar Radda at the event, the Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Alhaji Umar Yau Gwajogwajo, conveyed the governor’s goodwill message, explaining that the governor could not attend due to official engagements.
The Emir of Daura’s representative, Alhaji Salisu Yusuf, popularly known as Salanken Daura, praised the organisers for the intervention and urged affluent individuals to emulate the initiative by extending support to vulnerable communities.
Earlier, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr. Muhammad Umar Aljazeera, said the association had witnessed remarkable growth within just six months of existence, noting that many of its members are graduates contributing positively to community development.
The colourful event attracted Islamic scholars, politicians, security personnel, journalists, traditional rulers, social media influencers and members of the public from across the Daura zone.
