In a move to ease the hardship and reduce the cost of sacrificial Animals on the generality of people, the Bauchi State Government has come to the aid of Muslims who have no means of purchasing the sacrificial animal by distributing hundreds of Cows and Rams for the Sallah scheduled for Wednesday the 26 of May 2026 next week.
The humanitarian gesture is aimed at supporting thousands of residents across the twenty Local Government areas of the State.
The distribution was officially unveiled at the premises of the State Emergency Management by the Secretary of the State Government Alhaji Aminu Hammayo on behalf of the State Government.
Speaking during the inauguration of the exercise on behalf of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, described Eid-el-Kabir as a sacred season that promotes sacrifice, compassion, obedience, and collective responsibility among Muslims.
He stated that the intervention is designed to ease the burden of celebration for vulnerable households while strengthening the spirit of unity and shared prosperity across Bauchi State.
According to him, beneficiaries of the distribution programme include traditional institutions, community leaders, youth organizations, women groups, security personnel, religious stakeholders, and other vulnerable members of society.
Hammayo further revealed that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed specifically directed that all livestock for the exercise be sourced directly from local markets within the state as part of efforts to stimulate economic activities and empower indigenous livestock traders ahead of the festive season.
He praised members of the implementation committee for ensuring transparency and efficiency in the coordination process, adding that the distribution would simultaneously reach major zones and communities including Azare, Toro, Misau and other parts of the state.
Also speaking, Hon. Amina Katagum, Commissioner for Budget and Multilateral Coordination and overseeing Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the administration’s people-oriented governance philosophy.
She noted that the statewide distribution underscores the government’s determination to ensure that citizens celebrate the sacred festival with dignity, relief, and renewed hope despite prevailing economic challenges.
The Commissioner commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for sustaining what she termed a “compassion-driven leadership culture,” while offering prayers for continued peace, progress, and divine guidance for the state and its leadership.
