EFCC Drags Maiduguri CEO to Court Over Alleged N500,000 Tricycle Scam

Borno State Government

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Chief Executive Officer of GDF Home Sales Enterprises Ltd, Bilal Muhammad, before the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N500,000 fraud linked to the purchase of a tricycle.

Muhammad was docked before Justice Amina Mustapha Ibrahim on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly collected N500,000 from one Adamu Abubakar in April 2025 under the guise of purchasing a tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep, for the complainant.

The anti-graft agency alleged that the representation was false and was made with intent to defraud, contrary to the provisions of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

One of the charges stated that Muhammad, while acting as CEO of GDF Home Sales Enterprises Ltd, obtained the money in Maiduguri by falsely claiming it was meant for the purchase of a tricycle, a claim investigators said he knew to be untrue.

When the charges were read in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Following the plea, prosecution counsel A.D. Abdulmalik requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the hearing of the case.

Justice Ibrahim subsequently adjourned the matter until June 22, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

The court also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The arraignment is part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to tackle fraud and protect members of the public from financial scams and deceptive business practices.

The case is expected to proceed later this month as prosecutors seek to establish the allegations against the defendant before the court.
