In a stunning development, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed that 20 contestants in Kano’s upcoming local government elections have tested positive for drug abuse.

The announcement came after routine drug integrity tests were conducted ahead of the polls, raising concerns over the fitness of some candidates to hold office.

Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the Public Relations Officer of NDLEA Kano State Command, clarified that the figure includes both chairmanship and councilorship aspirants across various political parties.

“This is a serious issue, and we urge all candidates to take the integrity of the election process seriously,” Maigatari said.

The NDLEA is expected to release the full details once the screening exercise is complete, as the agency continues its efforts to ensure a drug-free political environment in Kano.
