SOKOTO — Anxiety has gripped Nigeria’s traditional boxing (Dambe) community following reports that renowned fighter Ali Kanin Bello remains unconscious in hospital after suffering a devastating knockout during a high-stakes contest in Sokoto State.
Reliable sources within the Dambe community disclosed that the incident occurred the day before yesterday, when Samgwam delivered a powerful knockout blow to Ali Kanin Bello in a fiercely contested match with a ₦250,000 prize at stake.
According to the sources, Ali Kanin Bello was immediately rushed to a medical facility after collapsing in the ring. As of the time of filing this report, he was said to have remained hospitalized and had not regained consciousness, raising serious concern among fellow fighters, fans and family members.
The shocking development has sent ripples through the traditional boxing fraternity, with many expressing prayers and hope for the fighter’s recovery.
Dambe, one of Northern Nigeria’s oldest and most celebrated traditional sports, is renowned for its intense physical contests and attracts thousands of spectators at festivals and competitions.
