Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, to immediately release former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Atiku’s demand, which has triggered fresh political reactions across the country, comes amid growing tension surrounding the circumstances leading to El-Rufai’s reported detention.
The former presidential candidate urged both the Federal Government and Kaduna State authorities to respect democratic principles and uphold the rule of law, insisting that no political disagreement should result in unlawful intimidation or suppression.
Political observers say Atiku’s intervention could further heighten political tension within the ruling and opposition camps, especially as alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to intensify.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the Kaduna State Government had officially responded to Atiku’s statement.
