The Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency, BICTDA, in partnership with Maxzeeton Technology and CATAI, on Tuesday unveiled Borno’s first indigenous AI humanoid robot, named “Mazi Zulum.”
The unveiling held in Maiduguri was part of activities marking the graduation of participants from a six-month Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp and the induction of 100 Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, DAAI, Fellows.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director of Maxzeeton Technology, Abdullahi Usman Alkali, said the robot was designed and developed by students trained in AI and robotics.
The programme began in September 2024 and was extended to enable students to produce practical innovations.
Alkali said the robot was conceived to address challenges in the education sector, especially in communities with a shortage of teachers.
“The robot is designed to guide learners step by step, especially when they are faced with difficult mathematical problems,” he said. “It can support pupils both at home and in the classroom by interacting with students and providing personalized assistance.”
BICTDA Executive Secretary, Engr. Mohammed Ahmed Kabir Wanori, FNSE, officially named the robot “Mazi Zulum” in honour of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his support for digital innovation in the state.
The event also featured the graduation of AI Bootcamp participants. Outstanding students were rewarded with a special award for the overall winner, while second and third place winners received a laptop and a tablet respectively.
BICTDA announced sponsorship for the top 10 participants to attend DigiTech Nigeria in Lagos, Digital Nigeria in Abuja, and the National Cybersecurity Conference.
Engr. Wanori said the initiative reflects the state government’s investment in building a digitally skilled workforce. He added that the government has established 22 Digital Literacy Centres across the state, where over 22,000 youths have been trained.
The induction of DAAI Fellows and graduation, he noted, is part of efforts to position Borno as a hub for technology and innovation in the North East.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to graduates and fellows.
