The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement operation against owners of unregistered vehicles and motorists using concealed, obscured, or fictitious number plates, with Mobile Courts already prosecuting offenders.
The exercise, launched in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is aimed at strengthening road safety and enhancing security across the state.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nafi’u Habib, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command disclosed that Mobile Courts have been deployed to the five Area Command Headquarters and strategic locations within Bauchi metropolis to ensure speedy prosecution of violators.
According to the statement, the operation targets vehicles operating without proper registration, those displaying covered or obscured number plates, as well as vehicles bearing unauthorized or fake registration numbers.
Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu said unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles pose a significant security threat, noting that criminals often exploit such vehicles to carry out acts of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.
He stressed that the enforcement drive is not intended to harass law-abiding motorists but to safeguard lives and property.
The police chief warned that any vehicle found violating the law would be impounded, while offenders would face immediate prosecution before the Mobile Courts. He added that penalties would include fines and other sanctions as provided under the Motor Vehicles Registration and Licensing Laws and relevant Police Regulations.
The Command urged vehicle owners to regularize their registration documents, properly display their number plates, and refrain from any act capable of concealing or defacing them.
It also called on members of the public to cooperate with officers carrying out the exercise, assuring that the operation would be sustained without compromise.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Bauchi roads safe and preventing criminal elements from using untraceable vehicles as tools for unlawful activities.
