FUNTUA – The Katsina State Police Command has struck what it described as a major blow to the logistics network of armed bandits with the arrest of an alleged notorious drug supplier caught with 500 tablets of D5, an illicit substance believed to fuel criminal activities in parts of the state.
The suspect, Sunday Eze, popularly known as “Dunbuje,” was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by operatives of the Central Police Station, Funtua, at about 5:00 p.m. on July 15, 2026.
Police said officers had trailed the suspect for some time before swooping on him. A search conducted immediately after his arrest uncovered 500 D5 tablets allegedly meant for distribution to armed bandits and other criminal elements operating in Funtua Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.
Investigators believe the suspect played a critical role in sustaining the activities of the armed groups by supplying them with illicit drugs, a development the Command described as a direct threat to ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the area.
The arrest is seen as part of the police strategy to cripple bandit networks by cutting off the flow of drugs and other logistics that enable their operations.
Police said the suspect is assisting investigators, while efforts have been intensified to uncover his supply chain, dismantle the wider distribution network, and apprehend other suspected collaborators. He will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, praised their professionalism and vigilance, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to relentlessly pursue those providing material support to criminal gangs.
The police chief also urged residents to remain security-conscious and continue providing credible and timely information, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to defeating banditry and other violent crimes in Katsina State.
