In line with his enduring commitment to grassroots development, social inclusion and economic empowerment, renowned philanthropist and community development advocate, Dr. Bala Wunti, has launched a groundbreaking N40 million empowerment initiative for persons living with disabilities in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The programme, announced by the CEO of Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) Arch. Muktar Jarmajo, will provide N200,000 each to 200 persons living with disabilitiesacross all wards of Katagum LGA to establish Point of Sale (POS) businesses as a sustainable means of livelihood.
He said the initiative reflects Dr. Bala Wunti’s broader vision for building an inclusive society where vulnerable citizens are not left behind but are equipped with the tools and opportunities needed to become economically independent and socially productive.
Jarmajo said over the years, Dr. Bala Wunti has remained a strong voice for community advancement and human capital development, championing interventions that directly impact ordinary people at the grassroots.
“This latest intervention further underscores his belief that empowerment remains the most effective pathway to dignity, self-reliance and long-term development,” he said.
Jarmajo described the initiative as more than just financial support, noting that it is a deliberate effort inspired by Dr. Bala Wunti’s people-centered philosophy of governance and development.
“Dr. Bala Wunti’s passion for uplifting the less privileged continues to inspire impactful programmes like this. This initiative is designed to restore hope, create opportunities and enable persons living with disabilities to become financially independent contributors to their communities,” he stated.
He added thay beyond addressing unemployment and poverty, the programme is also expected to significantly reduce street begging among beneficiaries while expanding access to essential financial services at the community level through the establishment of local POS outlets.

Persons Living With Disabilities across Katagum have welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely, impactful, and reflective of leadership that prioritizes compassion, inclusion, and sustainable economic growth.
