Anthropologist and founder of Nasser International Forum, Hassan Ali Ghazaly, has met with senior officials of the League of Arab States in Cairo, where discussions focused on the Palestinian cause, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the role of Arab culture in strengthening regional solidarity.
Ghazaly met with Ambassador Dr. Fayed Mostafa, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, as well as Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Nawal Al-Arabi.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of an event commemorating victims of the alleged genocide against the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, held at the League’s Secretariat headquarters on October 18, 2026.
The commemoration followed a resolution adopted by the League’s Council at ministerial level designating October 17 annually as a day to remember victims of genocide against Palestinians.
The initiative aims to preserve Palestinian collective memory, document alleged violations, promote justice and accountability, and renew calls for the protection of Palestinians’ legitimate rights.
During the meeting, Ghazaly expressed appreciation to the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector for the invitation and warm reception, commending its remarks on the suffering of Palestinians affected by occupation, settlement expansion and the conflict in Gaza.
Ambassador Mostafa, in turn, reflected on his family’s historical connection to the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, highlighting the former leader’s enduring place in Arab collective memory.
He recalled that his father, inspired by his admiration for Nasser and the July 1952 Revolution, chose July 23 as the birth date for both him and his brother to honour the historic event.
According to the ambassador, the decision reflected the revolution’s significance in Egyptian and Arab consciousness, as well as the central place of the Palestinian cause in the Arab world.
Mostafa also expressed appreciation to the Egyptian government, people and leadership for their continued support for the Palestinian cause.
Ghazaly, Arab League Official Discuss Culture
In a separate meeting, Ghazaly met with Ambassador Zaid Al-Sabban, Director of the Sudan and Horn of Africa Department at the League’s Secretariat and the organisation’s representative to a mechanism concerned with regional issues.
Their discussions explored Arab culture and the influence of literature and cinema in shaping public consciousness and strengthening ties among Arab societies.
They also exchanged views on the Arab literary landscape, prominent writers and readers, and the contribution of intellectual and artistic works to regional dialogue and cultural cooperation.
The meeting formed part of Ghazaly’s participation in activities addressing the Palestinian cause and broader Arab political and humanitarian issues.
Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Takes Centre Stage
The commemoration brought together senior Arab officials and representatives who highlighted the humanitarian situation in Gaza and called for the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance, civilian protection, a ceasefire and reconstruction.
Speakers also stressed the need for accountability for crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
The event featured statements by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, the President of the Arab Parliament and the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the League.
Participants also heard humanitarian testimonies from representatives of the medical, media and social sectors, while a documentary film presented accounts of reported violations in Gaza.
An art exhibition titled Ahwal (Horrors) was also inaugurated, showcasing works by Palestinian artists depicting different dimensions of the suffering endured by their people.
The exhibition used artistic expression to communicate the human cost of the crisis and preserve the experiences of Palestinians through visual storytelling.
Nasser International Forum Reaffirms Commitment
The participation of Nasser International Forum in the commemoration underscored its stated commitment to Arab and humanitarian causes and efforts to sustain international attention on Palestine.
The Forum also reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom, self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
The engagements with senior League of Arab States officials highlighted the intersection of diplomacy, humanitarian advocacy and cultural exchange in sustaining regional solidarity with Palestinians.
As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to command international attention, the commemoration served as a platform for renewed calls for civilian protection, justice, accountability and a lasting resolution that respects the rights of the Palestinian people.
