Party Cites Alleged Infractions, Poor Mobilisation; Livestock Commissioner Ordered to Step Aside
A major shake-up has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State following the suspension of the party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Kana-Zuru, and the APC Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Aliyu Abubakar Abiola, over alleged violations of party procedures and failure to effectively drive party activities.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the APC State Secretary, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammad Kimba, and made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the decision followed a series of complaints submitted by stakeholders from the Zuru Emirate, who expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the suspended officials.
The stakeholders reportedly accused the party leaders of displaying a lukewarm attitude toward party affairs, inadequate engagement with critical stakeholders, poor mobilisation of party supporters, and failure to adhere to established party guidelines and principles.
The APC said the allegations were considered serious enough to warrant disciplinary action pending further review.
As part of the decision, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Kana-Zuru has been relieved of his duties as State Chairman, while the Deputy State Chairman is expected to oversee the affairs of the party in an acting capacity until further directives are issued by the party leadership.
Similarly, Aliyu Abubakar Abiola has been suspended from his position as APC Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area.
The suspensions have sparked intense political discussions within the state, particularly in the Zuru Emirate, where both officials have played prominent roles in party administration and grassroots mobilisation.
Political observers say the move signals the party’s determination to enforce internal discipline and strengthen its organisational structure ahead of future political activities.
In a related development, the Kebbi State Government also announced the suspension of the Commissioner for Livestock Development and Fisheries, Alhaji Kabir Usman Alaramma Zuru.
The suspension was conveyed in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida.
According to the statement, the commissioner’s suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
Although the government did not provide detailed reasons for the action, it directed the commissioner to immediately hand over all government property, official documents and responsibilities under his custody to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry pending further action.
The twin developments involving key political and government figures have generated widespread interest across the state, with many observers awaiting further clarification from both the APC and the state government.
While party officials maintain that the disciplinary measures are aimed at protecting the integrity of the APC and ensuring adherence to its rules and procedures, government authorities have remained silent on the circumstances surrounding the suspension of the commissioner.
The actions underscore an increasingly firm stance by political and administrative authorities in addressing issues relating to accountability, performance and compliance within party and government structures.
As stakeholders continue to monitor developments, attention is expected to focus on the outcome of any investigations or consultations that may determine the future of the affected officials.
