ZURU, KEBBI — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Garba Aiki Rabi’u, as the winner of the Zuru State Constituency bye-election held on Saturday in Kebbi State.
The Returning and Collation Officer for the election, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, announced the result in Zuru on Saturday night after the completion of collation.
According to the official results, Garba Aiki Rabi’u secured 4,871 votes, defeating his closest rival, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who polled 168 votes.
The declaration was witnessed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kebbi State, Abubakar Dambo, alongside party supporters, election officials and other stakeholders.
The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, who represented Zuru Constituency until his demise.
The outcome reinforces the APC’s dominance in the constituency, with supporters celebrating the victory shortly after the announcement of the results.
Political observers say the election marks a significant step in restoring full representation for the people of Zuru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly following the loss of their former lawmaker.
With the declaration, Garba Aiki Rabi’u is expected to take over the legislative seat and continue the representation of the constituency at the state assembly.
