The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its House of Representatives primary elections across Borno State, producing a blend of experienced lawmakers and fresh political figures to carry the party’s banner in the forthcoming general elections.
The primaries, conducted across the three senatorial zones of the state, witnessed keen participation by party delegates and stakeholders, with victorious candidates emerging amid celebrations and renewed optimism within the ruling party.
In Borno North, prominent political figures secured tickets in strategic federal constituencies. Hon. Usman Ali Zannah emerged victorious for the Gubio, Kaga, and Magumeri Federal Constituency, while Hon. Engr. Bukar Talba clinched the APC ticket for Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai Federal Constituency.
Also in the northern zone, Hon. Fati Kake’nna Alkali won the party’s primary for Abadam, Mobbar, Guzamala, and Kukawa Federal Constituency, becoming one of the notable female candidates to emerge from the exercise.
The Borno Central zone also produced influential candidates with strong political credentials. Hon. Dr. Kaumi Umara Zulum, PhD, secured victory for Dikwa, Mafa, and Konduga Federal Constituency, while Hon. Alhaji Mustapha Babani emerged as the APC candidate for Bama, Ngala, and Kala Balge Federal Constituency.
For Jere Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Satomi Ahmad clinched the party’s ticket after a successful outing at the primaries, while Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis emerged victorious for Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) Federal Constituency.
In Borno South, political heavyweight and longtime federal lawmaker, Hon. Muktar Betara Aliyu, OON, secured the APC ticket for Biu, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, and Shani Federal Constituency, further strengthening his political influence in the zone.
Hon. Tarpaya Asarya also emerged victorious for Askira/Uba and Hawul Federal Constituency, while Hon. Ahmad Usman Jaha won the APC primary for Gwoza, Damboa, and Chibok Federal Constituency.
Party leaders and supporters across the state described the primaries as peaceful, transparent, and a reflection of the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and party unity ahead of the general elections.
The emergence of the candidates has already sparked celebrations in several parts of the state, with supporters expressing confidence that the APC will maintain its dominance in Borno politics.
Political observers say the outcome of the primaries has further positioned the APC as a formidable force in the state, especially with the inclusion of experienced legislators, grassroots politicians, and technocrats among the successful candidates.
Stakeholders within the party have since called on aspirants and supporters to close ranks and work collectively toward ensuring victory for the APC in the forthcoming polls.
