The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained traffic enforcement across the state, saying the operation is aimed at reducing road crashes, protecting lives and restoring order on major roads.
The Command said the exercise became necessary following a worrying rise in traffic accidents linked to dangerous driving practices, including excessive speeding, one-way driving, the use of concealed or covered number plates, and the illegal operation of tricycles and motorcycles on restricted routes.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, stressed that the ongoing enforcement campaign is not a revenue-generating exercise or a clampdown on law-abiding citizens.
Rather, he said it is a proactive safety initiative designed to improve compliance with traffic regulations and ensure safer movement of people and goods across Akwa Ibom State.
The police urged motorists, commercial transport operators, tricycle riders, motorcyclists and other road users to obey traffic laws, cooperate with officers on duty and remain patient during enforcement operations.
According to the Command, road safety is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of all residents to prevent avoidable accidents and preserve public order.
The police also called on members of the public to report reckless driving, dangerous road practices or any misconduct by police personnel through the appropriate channels, assuring residents that officers have been directed to carry out their duties with professionalism, fairness and respect for citizens’ rights.
Reaffirming its resolve to make the state’s roads safer, the Command said the traffic enforcement campaign would remain a key component of its broader strategy to protect lives, secure property and enhance public safety across Akwa Ibom.
