Thirty-nine students from Gombe State who benefited from an education sponsorship funded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship hopeful, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, have declared their support for his 2027 gubernatorial ambition, describing him as a leader committed to investing in the future of young people.
The students, who were sponsored to attend Yamusa Science Academy in Birnin Kebbi and are now pursuing university degrees, said the scholarship programme transformed their lives and convinced them that Gwamna would make education and youth development a top priority if elected governor.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mohammed Umar said the selection process reflected fairness and inclusiveness, noting that students from different parts of Gombe State were chosen purely on merit rather than personal connections.
According to him, the decision by Gwamna to finance the education of dozens of students from his personal resources demonstrates a genuine passion for human capital development.
“We are in higher institutions today because someone believed in our dreams. That single opportunity has changed our lives, and it gives us confidence that children and young people across Gombe will enjoy greater opportunities under his leadership,” Umar said.
Another beneficiary, Hafsat Abubakar, described the scholarship as a turning point in her life, saying it gave her the chance to pursue higher education and strengthened her belief in the importance of educating the girl-child.
Responding to the endorsement, Dr. Gwamna reaffirmed that education remains the foundation of lasting economic and social development. He pledged to expand opportunities for young people through quality education, vocational training and digital skills programmes aimed at preparing them for the modern economy.
The APC governorship aspirant also applauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for reforms that have improved the state’s education sector, saying the progress recorded in recent years provides a solid platform for future development.
He noted that Gombe’s education system has witnessed remarkable improvements, with examination pass rates rising significantly, hundreds of thousands of out-of-school children returning to classrooms, over 1,600 classrooms renovated and five mega colleges established to accommodate growing enrolment.
Describing the achievements as evidence of sustained commitment to education, Gwamna said his administration would build on the existing momentum to ensure every child in Gombe has access to quality learning opportunities.
He maintained that continuous investment in education and skills acquisition remains essential to achieving the state’s long-term development goals and securing a brighter future for the next generation.
