Nigerian military fighter aircraft operating under Operation Hadin Kai have destroyed multiple terrorist structures and logistics facilities, while neutralising about 18 terrorists during a precision air operation in the Tumbunma Baba area of the Tumbuns.
The air interdiction, carried out at about 6:05 a.m. on September 11, followed intelligence indicating that a high-level meeting involving terrorist elements was taking place on the islands.
Military sources said the operation was launched after intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions conducted on September 9 identified a number of terrorist structures and logistics hubs within the area.
Following confirmation of the targets, the military aircraft moved in and engaged the identified locations with onboard munitions.
The strikes reportedly destroyed several structures and key logistics facilities believed to be supporting terrorist operations in the enclave.
About 18 terrorists were also neutralised in the operation, according to the military assessment.
Sources described the mission as achieving an estimated 85 per cent success rate, while recommending additional air interdiction missions to consolidate the gains and prevent surviving terrorist elements from regrouping.
The latest operation forms part of the military’s continuing campaign to dismantle terrorist networks, cripple their supply chains and restrict their ability to move, coordinate and operate freely within the Tumbuns.
The successful strikes are expected to further disrupt the operational capabilities of terrorist elements using the remote island terrain as a base for planning and logistical activities.
Military authorities have continued to rely on intelligence-driven air operations alongside ground offensives as part of efforts to degrade terrorist formations and deny them safe havens across the North-East.
The operation at Tumbunma Baba underscores the growing emphasis on precision targeting, with surveillance and intelligence used to identify and verify terrorist positions before military assets are deployed.
Further operations are expected in the area as security forces seek to consolidate the gains and prevent the regrouping of surviving elements.
