ADC Unveils Retired Rear Admiral Sanusi Kashim Ibrahim as 2027 Gubernatorial Candidate for Borno

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Borno State has endorsed retired Rear Admiral Sanusi Kashim Ibrahim (OFR) as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 governorship election, citing his three decades of military leadership and public service record.

Born in Maiduguri, Ibrahim began his education in the Borno State capital, completing primary school in 1978 before proceeding to Government Technical College, Damagum, where he obtained his WAEC certificate in 1983. He later enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, graduating in 1989 with a http://B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics. In 2014, he earned an http://M.Sc. in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.

Ibrahim rose through the ranks of the Nigerian Navy to the position of Rear Admiral before retiring in 2023. During his service, he held key command and staff appointments, including Fleet Operations Officer, Eastern Fleet, Calabar; Commander, Naval Base, Port Harcourt; Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Analysis at Naval Headquarters; Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command; and Nigerian Navy Secretary.

The ADC described him as a seasoned administrator with proven experience in governance, security strategy, maritime operations, institutional development, and public sector transformation. His career also included high-level interagency coordination, legislative liaison, and workforce planning.

For his service to the nation, Ibrahim was conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), alongside several military medals and badges of honour.

Announcing his endorsement, ADC members in Borno said Ibrahim’s background in leadership, integrity, and strategic planning makes him well-positioned to address the state’s security, economic, and developmental challenges.

“We are calling on the good people of Borno State to give him the chance to transform our state into an enviable status where peace, progress, prosperity and tranquility will prevail,” the party stated.

Ibrahim is married with two children. Outside public service, he enjoys lawn tennis, badminton, and jogging.
