The ADC Stakeholders Support Forum, Zone One (Kaduna North Senatorial District), Kaduna State, has rejected the outcome of the party’s senatorial primary election held on 30th May, 2026, describing the process as flawed, unfair, and inconsistent with the party’s democratic guidelines.
In a strongly worded position made available to journalists, the stakeholders condemned the declaration of Alhaji Khalid Mustapha as the party’s senatorial candidate, insisting that the exercise failed to reflect transparency, fairness, and internal democracy.
The group alleged that the process leading to the emergence of the candidate was marred by irregularities, including the exclusion of a key aspirant, Distinguished Senator Sulaiman Abdu Kwari, who they said was unfairly denied the opportunity to participate in the contest.
According to the stakeholders, Senator Kwari had already been screened and certified as qualified by the party’s national screening committee at the senate level, raising questions about the authority of the primary election committee to subsequently exclude him from the race.
They argued that while allegations of anti-party activities were cited as justification for his exclusion, such decisions, they maintained, do not fall within the powers of the primary election committee but rather the appropriate organs of the party leadership, in line with ADC’s constitution and established procedures.
The stakeholders further questioned the legality and fairness of the process, insisting that once an aspirant has been duly cleared through official screening, any attempt to disqualify such a candidate outside due process undermines internal democracy and party credibility.
Describing the development as deeply concerning, the forum warned that failure to address the grievances could erode confidence in the party among members and supporters across Kaduna State, especially at a time when the ADC is seeking to expand its political influence.
They stressed that the African Democratic Congress must uphold its reputation as a party committed to justice, accountability, and democratic principles by ensuring that all internal electoral processes are conducted fairly and transparently.
The stakeholders therefore called on the National Leadership of the ADC, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Kaduna State Executive Committee to urgently review the conduct of the Kaduna North Senatorial primary election and investigate all allegations of irregularities surrounding the exercise.
They also urged the party leadership to take immediate corrective measures aimed at restoring confidence, resolving internal disputes, and strengthening internal democracy, noting that “justice must not only be done but must also be seen to have been done.”
Reiterating their commitment to the unity and progress of the party, the group said their position was not intended to create division but to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the ADC.
Accordingly, the stakeholders formally rejected the outcome of the 30th May, 2026 senatorial primary election, insisting that urgent intervention is required to preserve fairness, unity, and trust within the party’s structures in Kaduna State.
The statement was signed by Alhaji Sani Abba, Dr Aminu Yahaya, Mathew Jonathan (Sabon Gari Zaria), and Mrs Maryam Mustapha, on behalf of concerned stakeholders, party members, and supporters.
