The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised fresh concerns over the continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, alleging restricted access to him and heavy police presence around the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) facility in Abuja.
The party accused authorities of tightening security around the anti-graft agency’s detention centre, claiming that party members, associates and sympathisers have faced difficulties gaining access to the former governor.
El-Rufai has remained in ICPC custody since February 19, 2026, over allegations of financial impropriety linked to his administration during his eight-year tenure as Kaduna governor between 2015 and 2023.
In a statement, the ADC described the situation as troubling and called for transparency in the handling of the case, insisting that due process and the rights of the former governor must be respected.
The party also alleged that the deployment of heavily armed police operatives around the facility had heightened tension among supporters and political observers.
The development has continued to generate reactions across the political landscape, with supporters of the former governor demanding fair treatment and speedy judicial proceedings.
The ICPC is yet to officially respond to the latest claims by the ADC regarding access restrictions and security deployment at the detention facility.
