Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider increasing the national minimum wage from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.
AbdulRazaq made the appeal on Friday during a meeting between President Tinubu and state governors at the President’s residence in Lagos.
The governor argued that a further wage review would help workers cope with rising living costs and strengthen the purchasing power of Nigerian families amid ongoing economic challenges.
His proposal comes less than a year after the Federal Government approved a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000, following extensive negotiations with organised labour.
The call for a fresh increase is expected to spark debate among policymakers, labour unions and state governments, many of which are still adjusting to the implementation of the current wage structure.
AbdulRazaq’s recommendation underscores growing concerns over inflation and the need for measures to cushion the economic burden on Nigerian workers.
