The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its crackdown on violent crime, arresting three suspected armed robbers linked to a robbery operation in Uyo and recovering several stolen items.
The suspects were apprehended following a distress report received on May 25, 2026, from a resident who alleged that armed men invaded his home and carted away valuable property.
Acting swiftly on the report, police detectives launched an intelligence-led investigation that led to the arrest of one suspect, Inyene Aniefiok, in Uyo. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and assisted investigators in tracking down two other alleged gang members, Emmanuel Thomas and Elijah Gideon, who were arrested in the early hours of May 29.
A follow-up operation resulted in the recovery of suspected stolen items, including a Sumec generator, an arc saw, electrical cables, hand gloves, wrecking tools, a pinch bar, machetes, and a blood pressure monitoring machine.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover weapons allegedly used during the robbery.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the detectives for their professionalism and swift action, while also praising residents whose timely information aided the operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining its offensive against armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes, warning criminals to either abandon their activities or face the full weight of the law.
The police chief also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information, assuring that all reports would be treated confidentially and acted upon promptly.
