Thousands of pupils and teachers from 3,409 Islamiyya schools across 11 local government areas of Gombe State have taken part in a colourful statewide procession to mark the 2026 Maulud celebration.

The annual event, held in honour of the life, teachings and exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), attracted a large gathering of residents who lined major roads to watch the procession.

The celebration featured Qur’anic recitations, Nasheed performances and prayers, with participants using the occasion to renew their commitment to the teachings and moral values of Islam.

Addressing participants at the central gathering, Chairman of the Gombe State Islamiyya Teachers Association, Sayyadi Mahmood Aliyu Ra’ees, called on teachers and pupils to make discipline, honesty, respect, fairness and hard work part of their daily lives.

He stressed that the significance of Maulud should go beyond the celebration, urging Muslims to demonstrate the Prophet’s teachings through their conduct at home, in schools and across their communities.

Also speaking, Malam Bello Isa Nayi Nawa thanked Almighty Allah for the peaceful conduct of the celebration and for protecting the thousands of people who participated in the procession.

He described the impressive turnout as a sign of increasing interest in Islamic education among parents, teachers and communities across Gombe State.

In his remarks, Ustaz Abdullatif Modibbo Tukur commended participants for maintaining peace and prayed for continued unity, stability and development in the state.

According to him, the strong participation of children was particularly significant, as it showed that values such as good character, compassion, peaceful coexistence and service to others were being passed on to the younger generation.

To ensure a hitch-free celebration, security agencies deployed personnel along major routes used by the procession. The Police, hunters, Civil Defence personnel and the Federal Road Safety Corps were among those involved in securing participants and controlling traffic.

Some parents who attended the event said the gathering offered an important platform for teaching children valuable lessons about integrity, compassion, respect and the responsibility to support members of their communities.

The massive participation of more than 3,400 Islamiyya schools ultimately turned the 2026 Maulud celebration into a major display of Islamic learning, moral instruction and communal unity in Gombe State.

The event also underscored the growing role of religious education in nurturing responsible young people and promoting peaceful coexistence across the state.
