A head of the summission of names of candidates to various electoral offices by political parties to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for verification, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde weekend embarked on consultation spree for possible running mate up north.
Makinde, also the Governor of Oyo state was in Bauchi to make consultations with state counterpart, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, whose two-terms ending tenure under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) abruptly turned APM state, resulting from his former party’s crisis.
Governor Seyi Makinde and his entourage that included the APM National Chairman, Engr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle while Fielding journalists questions shortly after the closed-door meeting with his host, Governor Bala Mohammed, said that their visit to Bauchi is also part of the consultation to pick a running-mate on the platform of the party
The APM presidential flagbearer explained, “I came here this afternoon to consult with with my brother on wide ranging issues. You will recall that the two of us were the two governors on the platform of APM in the entire country”.
He added, “And if you look at the configuration of the country right now in terms of the governors, the APC have 13 governors, we are the next, the two of us. And then you have one governor from Labour Party, one from APGA, and one from Accord Party, making the 36 governors in Nigeria”.
Makinde explained that consulting with his brother is a no brainier, knowing fully that if he have challenges, before he run to anybody, he would run to somebody that he knows is the same stock as himself, hence his visit to Bauchi.
“We discussed issues surrounding our party, and the future of democracy in Nigeria. We believe that the people of Nigeria will ultimately speak. If they like what is going on, fine, they can go with the current set up or current administration, or whatever they didn’t like it. All we are saying is that the voices of the people must be heard clearly”.
Governor Makinde stressed, “Those in authorities should not suppress the will of the people, they must not suppress whatever is the decision the people are going to take, and that will ensure the People’s decision happen in the long run.
Makinde, who expressed confidence on APM winning the 2027 presidential race, further stated, “Democracy has to do with people, we believe Nigerian people will speak very loud and clearly when the time comes”.
While describing the Nigerian political environment as very toxic, Makinde said however that “When the day is about to break, that is the darkest point. So I can give assurance to Nigerians that irrespective of the challenges we are faced with, the day is about to break for a new dawn in the country, and tomorrow the sun will start rising again for Nigeria”.
Responding, the host governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed recalled that their tradition in the PDP has entrenched peer mechanism where governance is a continuous collaboration and interaction with colleagues at both the state and national levels to look at challenges and borrow ideas from each other.
Governor Bala Mohammed explained that the consultative meeting has discussed alot of issues, especially that of security, and the future of APM that is growing as the next opposition political party that is ready, and repositioning itself to give constructive opposition in the country.
According to him, his Oyo state counterpart as the APM presidential candidate is working assiduously to make sure that issues-based campaigns are done without any malice in whatever they are going to do with maturity and harvest of ideas, and personnel that they will do it.
Senator Bala Mohammed described the APM National Chairman, Engr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle as a young and vibrant man whose political party is fully loaded with knowledge and human capital, as well as the leadership trajectory to deliver if given the opportunity.

Yusuf Mamman Dantalle noted that in Nigeria’s political history, the country has never desired governance change like the one now sweeping, saying that it’s shameful how Nigerians are being chased out of a country like South Africa where Nigeria worked for it’s independence.
“And the government of this country is standing aloof. It is embarrassing. It is shameful that in the house, some persons are selected to say something, some are not allowed to say. We saw what happened about two, three days ago this week in the House of Representatives. Nobody will save Nigeria unless we choose to save it”.
Engr. Yusuf Dantalle said that APM is not coming to do the usual, but rather it is poised to reset Nigeria, to reboot it, to start solving the country’s problems from the grassroots, saying “Let every Nigerian take his/her destiny in own hands, this we will do legitimately”.
Dantalle therefore called on all Nigerians to come forward towards changing the country for the better, adding “It’s not about us, it’s about Nigeria for Nigerians”
