Former President Goodluck Jonathan has paid a heartfelt tribute to his late predecessor, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as a “servant leader” whose legacy of integrity, justice, and humility continues to inspire Nigeria 16 years after his passing.
In a reflective message shared on his X account, Jonathan recalled Yar’Adua not only as a leader but as a brother and trusted partner in service, noting that their time in office was driven by a shared vision of building a just, inclusive, and united nation.
He emphasized that Yar’Adua’s leadership was defined by quiet strength and deep conviction, particularly in his commitment to the rule of law and credible democratic processes.
“Yar’Adua was a man who believed that justice must not just be preached but practiced,” Jonathan stated, adding that the late president placed national stability above personal and political interests.
The former president highlighted Yar’Adua’s achievements in peace-building, noting that his willingness to confront challenges with sincerity and courage remains a benchmark for leadership in Nigeria.
According to Jonathan, the late leader’s life offers enduring lessons for those in power, stressing that true leadership is rooted in accountability, transparency, and genuine love for the people.
“Sixteen years later, his strides continue to testify for him,” he said, urging Nigerians to recommit to the ideals Yar’Adua championed.
Jonathan concluded with prayers for the repose of the late president, asking Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
Yar’Adua, fondly remembered as the “Gentleman President,” passed away in 2010, leaving behind a legacy widely regarded as one of humility and respect for democratic values.
