Borno state Governor Eng prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has informed president Alh Bola Ahmed Tinubu the significance of Nigerian Army University Biu located in the sourthen part of Borno state.
Governor Zulum made the appealed while in a close door meetimg with President BOLA Ahmed Tinubu at the presidential VILLA Abuja on Friday.
While speaking to the state house correspondent shortly after meeting with the president, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum said, he purposely saw Mr. President on the issue of Nigerian Army university Biu because recently there was a communication from the presidency that some institutions will be marged base on fomer head of service of Federation ‘s report.
He said “we have pleaded to Mr. President to reconsider the issue of margin Nigerian Army University, Biu with the Nigerian Defense Academy”.
Zulum pleaded that the the Nigerian Army University should be a conventional, under the Federal Ministry of Education rather than marging it with the Nigerian Defense Academy.
Stressing that he’s happy inform the President who has directed Gov Zulum to write to on the importance of the matter so that he will initially consider the request from the people of Borno state.
Governor Zulum stated that Southern Borno State is a very important region, not only in the state but also to the entire country. Adding that There are a huge number of students that are willing to study, and they don’t have any federal university in this zone.
Governor Zulum further explain that of Army university is marged with the NDA, then the state may encounter a huge number of out -of -school children as a result of absence of university in this part of the state.
Zulum reiterated that , Borno State has faced a social threat as the result of Boko Haram insurgency many of Borno children are out of school, that means scraping of Army University will also create another gap of having more out -of -school children.
Adding that Army university will support the vision of the federal government of reducing the number of out of school children, not only from primary schools and secondary schools, but also from tertiary institutions.
He said ” the most important thing is that the President has listened to me and he has agreed to review the matter in sha Allah”
On the important of education in nation building, the governor explained that education is very critical is the bedrock for any meaningful development without which nothing goid will happen.
People of Borno have been passing though crisis for about 15 years, Nigerian Army University means a lot to the people.
