The Zamfara Indigenes Enlightenment Forum (ZIEF), a coalition of civil society groups in Zamfara State, has issued a powerful call to the Federal Government of Nigeria, urging swift action to counter foreign interference in the nation’s domestic affairs. This appeal follows troubling reports of foreign flags being displayed during recent nationwide protests, an act ZIEF describes as a blatant threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty.
In a strongly worded statement, ZIEF condemned the display of these foreign symbols, viewing it as a dangerous signal of external influence and a potential catalyst for internal division. “This is not just a protest issue; it’s a national security concern,” said Tanimu Abdullahi, ZIEF’s State Coordinator. “Foreign interference in our domestic matters undermines our sovereignty and distracts from the genuine issues we need to address as a nation.”
ZIEF is demanding a full investigation into the incident and calling for the prosecution of those involved. They also emphasize the need for reinforced efforts to promote unity and patriotism, warning that unchecked foreign interference could lead Nigeria down a path of instability, similar to the fates of Sudan, Libya, and Mali.
