The Board of Trustees of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria has constituted an 11-member National Convention Planning Committee and directed the immediate commencement of state-level elections ahead of the organization’s national convention.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the Board stated that the action was taken pursuant to Article 4, Section 8 of the YAN Constitution, 2024, as amended.
The Board described the committee as a broad-based body comprising representatives from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, designed to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.
Rt. Hon. Samuel Godstime Chukwubuikem will serve as Chairman, with Rt. Hon. Shuaibu Sani as Secretary. Other members are Rt. Hon. Famuyibo Nathaniel Oluwasegun, Prince Mohammed Sani Hassan, Amb. Muhammadu Bello Dabai, Amb. Albert Ezenwata Nwangwu, Amb. Henry Ejiroghene Oghwere, Alh. Esinrogunjo Musbau, Amb. Adeyelu Oluwadamilare Samuel, Amb. Charles Ezeaniekwe, and Rt. Hon. Habiba Umar Iliyasu.
The committee has been mandated to propose the convention theme, date, and venue, prepare the budget, coordinate logistics, and ensure all processes comply with the YAN Constitution and electoral guidelines.
The Board also directed the National Deputy Speaker, in consultation with the National Speaker, to appoint Returning Officers for all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Returning Officers will conduct and supervise electioneering activities at the state level ahead of the national convention.
“The Board expects this process to commence without delay to ensure adequate preparation at the sub-national levels,” the statement said.
The Board urged members, state chapters, and stakeholders to cooperate with the committee and Returning Officers to deliver a credible process reflective of the aspirations of Nigerian youth.
