In a remarkable testament to effective leadership and strategic security coordination, Yobe State recorded a peaceful and attack-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration across all its 17 local government areas. This commendable feat was achieved under the visionary leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, and the proactive measures put in place by security stakeholders across the state.
Speaking on the development, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), praised the collaborative efforts of the security forces, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and the resilient people of Yobe State for maintaining peace during the sacred Muslim festival.
“This year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration stands as one of the most peaceful in recent memory,” Brig. Gen. Abdulsalam noted. “Under the directive and support of His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, a robust security architecture was put in place weeks ahead of the Sallah celebration, which helped avert any form of attack or security breach. The result is a joyful, peaceful, and incident-free festival for all.”
The retired general emphasized that Governor Buni’s unwavering commitment to peacebuilding, reintegration, and support for security agencies has transformed Yobe into a model of post-insurgency stability in the Northeast region. He said that the government ensured adequate logistics and inter-agency collaboration, which enabled security operatives to carry out surveillance, patrols, and intelligence gathering across volatile flashpoints.
“The Governor continues to lead from the front,” Abdulsalam stressed. “He does not treat security as a side issue; it is central to his administration’s priorities. From facilitating the return of displaced persons to empowering vigilante groups and enhancing intelligence operations, Governor Buni has ensured that peace is not just preached but also practiced and protected.”
Across Damaturu, Potiskum, Gashua, Geidam, and other major towns, Muslim faithful were seen trooping to Eid grounds in large numbers, offering prayers and celebrating with family and friends without fear or disruption. Markets remained open, transportation ran smoothly, and security personnel were visible but unobtrusive – a signal that normalcy and confidence have returned to daily life in Yobe.
Religious and traditional leaders also applauded the state’s security improvement. The Chief Imam of Damaturu, Sheikh Musa Usman, during his Eid sermon, offered special prayers for Governor Buni and the security agencies for their sacrifices and urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperative in sustaining the peace.
Brig. Gen. Abdulsalam concluded his remarks by warning that while peace has returned, complacency must be avoided. “Security is a collective responsibility. The price of peace is eternal vigilance. We must not take this achievement for granted. Let us continue to work together to keep Yobe safe.”
The Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Yobe State this year sends a clear message: with purposeful leadership, strategic planning, and community involvement, even the most vulnerable states can rise above insecurity and celebrate in peace.
