Former National Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one-time Gombe State governorship aspirant, Hon. Ahmed Yayari, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), taking his supporters along with him.
Yayari, a former Chief of Staff to ex-Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, formally joined the APC after receiving his membership card at Kalshingi Ward in Akko Local Government Area of the state.
The development adds to the growing wave of political realignments in Gombe ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several influential politicians and their supporters moving into the APC fold.
Speaking after his registration, Yayari said he was prepared to put his political experience, contacts and grassroots support base at the disposal of the APC as the party prepares for the next general elections.
He also declared his support for the APC governorship candidate in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, alongside other candidates seeking elective positions on the party’s platform at both state and national levels.
Yayari said his decision followed his determination to work with APC leaders, stakeholders and members to strengthen the party and contribute to its electoral efforts in 2027.
His entry into the APC is notable because of his previous national position within the PDP, his experience as a governorship aspirant and his service as Chief of Staff under the Dankwambo administration.
The defection therefore brings into the APC fold a politician with experience spanning party administration, state government and governorship politics.
Yayari’s move comes at a time when political parties in Gombe are positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with stakeholders intensifying consultations, mobilisation and efforts to consolidate their respective political structures.
For the APC, his arrival adds another prominent figure to its growing political camp in the state, while Yayari’s decision marks a major shift from his previous political platform.
The former PDP national officer is expected to work with APC stakeholders at the grassroots and state levels as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
