Tension erupted early Wednesday morning in Kano as truck drivers shut down the major road around the Yan Kaba Motor Park to protest the alleged assault of one of their colleagues by policemen attached to the park.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred late Tuesday night when a trailer driver was reportedly beaten by officers during an encounter at the motor park. The situation quickly sparked outrage among fellow drivers, who mobilized and used their trucks to block the busy route.
The blockade caused significant traffic congestion, leaving many motorists stranded and forcing commuters to seek alternative routes.
Drivers at the scene said they would not reopen the road until authorities address the alleged misconduct and ensure justice for their colleague.
Meanwhile, the injured driver is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital, and his condition is said to be stable.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
