Troops operating under Sector 3 of Operation HADIN KAI have dealt a fresh blow to illicit drug trafficking in Borno State, arresting a suspected drug dealer and two alleged accomplices, including a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The suspects were apprehended around 9:25 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, following intelligence gathering and prolonged surveillance of suspected drug peddlers operating in Monguno Local Government Area.
A security source disclosed that the alleged principal suspect, identified as Babagana Modu, popularly known as Osama, was arrested alongside two collaborators, one of whom was identified as Awami Alhaji Garba, a CJTF member.
The trio were intercepted in the Gidan Wuta general area of Monguno town, where troops were conducting an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal networks.
During the operation, troops recovered a sizeable quantity of suspected cannabis sativa, reportedly concealed and packed inside three sacks.
The suspects, along with the recovered substance, have been taken into military custody as investigations continue.
Security authorities are also working to uncover the wider network allegedly connected to the suspects, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to be involved in the drug trafficking operation.
The latest arrests underscore the growing focus of security forces on tackling criminal activities capable of undermining counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East.
Authorities said the investigation would continue, with further arrests possible as security operatives trace the suspected drug supply chain and its collaborators.
