Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered a cache of illicit substances during a routine checkpoint operation in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
Military sources confirmed that the suspect was intercepted at about 3:30 p.m. on June 6 by personnel of the 145 Battalion (Main) deployed at a security checkpoint in the area.
A search conducted on the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of three packs of tramadol tablets, 28 tablets of another suspected controlled substance, and 54 wraps of suspected cannabis.
Other items recovered included a knife, four rings, a mobile phone, a wristwatch, and ₦800 in cash.
According to security sources, the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of illicit drugs, which authorities say often fuel criminal activities and insecurity in the region.
The suspect is currently in military custody and is expected to be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
Security forces have intensified operations across the North-East, targeting drug trafficking networks and other criminal elements as part of broader efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
